In the ‘Top reasons to Keep Smoking
‘ thread you claim to be a pipe smoker who apparently snubs his nose at cigarette smokers. So which is it, are you a, "fine wine taster or an alcoholic who blows through sixpacks daily?"
I smoke primarily cigarettes but have a fine collection of pipes I enjoy on a regular basis. So by your standards how do I judge myself, an alcoholic wine taster?

The ban outlaws lighting up in all public indoor areas and prohibits most tobacco advertising. But how effective it will be is an open question.
The state tried 13 years ago to collect taxes on cigarette sales on reservations but backed down. Its new effort takes effect on Wednesday.
I see this referendum as most likely being our last stand. If anti can be turned away here, there is still hope.
I donated $50.00. I urge all of you to kick in what you can and tell others to do the same.

CamelGuy, relighting a cigarette increases health risks. And with FSC cigarettes, most smokers puff more frequently and draw more deeply to keep them going–the very things they said made light cigarettes bad for you.
It’s interesting to read the various reactions to FSC cigarettes, though. Some don’t notice; others wind up in the hospital. Light cigarettes do not have as much ignition propensity as regular cigarettes, so they do not require as much FSC characteristics. That might explain why you don’t notice. I fear it will still increase your health risks, though.
Gilster, I don’t know about microwaving FSC cigarettes. It’s hard to imagine that’s a good idea. The most intriguing solution I read was where some guy takes an emery board and files down the "speed bumps" that make cigarettes fire standards compliant. Fairly laborious to be sure, but it could work.
Personally, I roll my own now. However, the paper of the additive-free light cigarettes I used to smoke was very porous, which created a very efficient burning process (and it didn’t matter if you covered up the holes near the filter). Inefficient burning, mandated by FSC laws, produces more chemicals that are potentially toxic.
Unfortunately, they do not make menthol tubes with very porous paper (I don’t want to burn the menthol), so I have to take a pin, and poke three holes at various places on the cigarette, to try to mimic very porous paper. But it still doesn’t burn as efficiently, and talk about laborious.
Anyway, my concern over the misrepresentation of the health risks of light cigarettes is because the lead author of the flawed Harvard study on FSC cigarettes is using the National Cancer Institute’s review to justify the increased toxicity of FSC cigarettes.
He’s also on the FDA’s Tobacco Advisory Committee: Gregory Connolly.

Oddly enough, I have read many accounts of people smoking FSC’s and experiencing a metallic taste and throat irritation. I have never had a problem with Camel Lights since they were required to switch over about a year ago in Wisconsin/Minnesota. They taste the same to me as they always did. But I hate having to re-light them frequently!
Hi,
Welcome to the forum and to RYO.
I have tobacco stored in the bags they came in that is 1 1/2 years in the closet and no problems at all. ( I bought a bunch before the "Taxman" hit us) They say that it is good for 6 to 8 yr.s , but I wont have it long enough to test it for duration
I’ve been mixing the store bought with home grown from last year so it lasts longer than expected when I bought it.
Once that you get used to RYO,real tobacco and away from FSC, you’ll throw rocks at the premades. I haven’t had one in years.
Hang in there —-It only gets better.
